Even with decades experience as a journalist I was disappointed when, on a recent media training assignment in Asia, I heard the story of a local manager who'd been hoodwinked by a Western media outfit. Once more, the sharks had circled, eaten and spat out, like they sometimes can when you're dealing with the Western media. Great imagery for their TV report but nothing involved with the truth!

On another occasion I was training in Thailand and I advised the participants to consider religious sensitivities because my Christian client had staff scattered across Asia where many other religions were involved.
Certain satellite shows were being beamed into all the countries represented in our training group so comments made in one country, for instance, might not be acceptable in another country in the satellite footprint due to these religious differences.
An important point that might not have occurred to the Western journalists who were putting the program together for the region rather than for individual countries.
